Rails, freeways, and bikes - how three transit epochs shaped Cleveland.
Streetcar City
Streetcar City begins by locating mysterious relics of Cleveland’s historic streetcar system hidden in plain site. These modern day ruins of a once great electric rail system provide entry points to explore the rise and fall of electric rail on the streets of Cleveland and the countryside of Northeast Ohio
Freeway City
Freeway City looks at the emergence of the automobile as the dominant form of transit after World War II. Centered around an epic struggle between an authoritarian county engineer and a grassroots movement and newly minted Mayor Carl Stokes who were concerned about preserving the city and its inner-ring suburbs from the desecration of four east-side freeways.
Bike City
Bike City looks at the emerging movement to transform city streets to enable bicycling as a means of transit on par with buses and automobiles.
Community Cinema
Moving Places looks to embed the collective experience of cinema in interactive events that connect deep history with a vision for a sustainable transportation future for Cleveland.
